RAKU CERAMICS

Raku is a Japanese technique whose origins dates back to 16th century.

Used by master potters to make cups for the tea ceremony, it was kept a secret for long time.
Today's artists are fascinated by this technique so barbaric and strongly evocative too.

Shaping an object from clay and subsequently subjecting it to the action of the four elements, air, water, fire and earth. Using special glazes mixed with metal oxides and silver , setting fire to the ceramics still glowing from the oven, than throw it into the water ... All these operations do not remind a strange and ancient ceremony?

We can say that Raku itself is a ritual and Raku ceramics are talismans with their raw beauty evoking the harmonious encounter between the intelligent will and the accidental intrusion of chaos.
